It’s a nightmare come true - you’ve broken a tooth and need to see the dentist, but it’s a Saturday! The office is closed. Does that mean you have to suffer all weekend until the dentist near you can see you Monday morning?
At Smile Bright Dental Studio, we say NO! You don’t have to delay treating a dental emergency until Monday because we’re a Saturday dentist in Fulshear, TX. We’ve put together a list for you of common dental emergencies and what you can do about them before arriving at your Saturday dentist near you.
Common Dental Emergencies
- Toothaches- First, rinse the mouth with warm saltwater. This will help reduce swelling and pain and dislodge any trapped food that could be putting pressure on the gum. Don’t put aspirin against the gum or tooth, as it may cause further damage. Call us at Smile Bright Dental Studio, even if it’s Saturday.
- Knocked-Out Tooth- Rinse the tooth with clean water, but don’t scrub it. If possible, replace it back in the socket, but don’t force it. Be careful not to swallow the tooth, and if you can’t get it to fit in the socket, place it in a glass of milk. The sooner you can come with the tooth to the dentist, the greater your chances are of saving the tooth. A tooth is more likely to be successfully replaced within the first hour of being knocked out.
- Missing Filling- Stick a piece of sugar-free gum in the hole where the filling used to be and call your Saturday dentist immediately.
- Soft-tissue Injuries- If you have sustained damage to the gums, cheek, or tongue, and you can’t stop the bleeding, it’s time to get to the dentist ASAP. In the meantime, you can place cold compresses over the affected area to reduce pain and swelling. Hold manual pressure over the bleeding area with a moist gauze or a tea bag for twenty minutes, then check to see if it has stopped.
